I couldn’t make Judaism work, so I left. This is my personal story.
Why I Left Judaism
I was born of two Jewish parents and raised in the synagogue.
I went to Shabbos School, Hebrew School, and Shabbos services every Friday night and Saturday morning.
I even wanted to be a rabbi when I grew up.
I was a perfect Jew.
I was a star Bar Mitzvah student.
I was the very first to chant the HafTorah which is the reading from the Prophets for specific Sabbath days.
Our Shabbos School director had decided early on that we should focus on Tanach—that is, the Old Testament—alongside Talmud.
Despite my Jewish path looking solid, Talmud made me uneasy because it constantly covered the sins of leading figures.
Mr Schultz, one of our teachers, told us that Talmud teaches that David did not sin.
But rather, his so-called “adultery”—”as Christians teach”—with Bathsheba, did not happen, since her soldier-husband made a “temporary divorce” with her, as all soldiers did at that time when off to battle.
We were also taught the Kabbalah.
Its main book The Zohar was read during services, along with Kabbalistic lessons on “Sepher HaBahir,” “The Book of Illumination.”
It describes the ten “sefirot,” “emanations” that radiate from God, and how we can participate in these emanations.
My dad slighted Kabbalah as “occult.”
“Talmud,” he said, “is the mainstay of Judaism, not Kabbalah.”
Whether Talmud, with it’s twisting of Bible stories…
…or Kabballah, with its occult bizarreness, both felt like being on shaky ground.
The crisis soon came.
Our Bar Mitzvah class teacher, Mrs Schecter, had us study every religion under the sun so that we would know why Judaism is supreme.
We studied:
Baha’i, Islam, Sikh, Hinduism, Janism, Buddhism, Shinto, Tao, Zen.
Everything but Christianity.
At the end of the school year, Mrs Schecter gets up from her desk, (she was built like a bull, I can still see her standing there), and says:
“Children!”
“We’re not going to study Christianity since it was invented by a self-hating Jew named Saul.
“He hated his Jewishness so much that he changed his Jewish name of Saul to the goyisha name of Paul.
“And besides,” she said, “Christianity is a fable.”
“Mrs Schecter,” I asked.
“How is it that two thousand years of civilization should be built on a fable?”
“Paul was a manic-depressant, that’s how!, she said!”
I asked my dad, “What’s a manic-depressant?”
“Have no idea,” my dad shrugged.
This was in 1962, and no one had a clue, except Mrs Schecter.
My dad cut right to the chase:
“You were born a Jew, you will die a Jew, end of debate!”
I asked my rabbi the next day when visiting my grandmother in the hospital:
“Why can’t we learn about Christianity?
“Since Jesus Christ is a major figure shouldn’t we at least learn about him?”
He spit.
Right on the hospital floor!
I was shocked.
He said:
“Don’t you ever use that name again unless you use it as a curse word.”
He spit again.
I said to myself:
“With this kind of response it just might be true.”
Soon I attended my cousin’s Bar Mitzvah in another synagogue.
It was musty, dark, moldy kind of smelling, with Jewish Stars all over the walls.
I smelled, “death.”
I tried to leave.
My mother pulled me back by my sleeve.
All through the service I had the dry-heaves.
I learned later that the Star of David is an occult symbol from the Middle Ages, and not the “Shield of David,” that is, the “Mogen David.”
How could it be with open spaces for enemy spears to strike through?
In one resounding clang:
It was the ‘smell of death,’ the ‘rabbi spitting,’ the ‘Talmudic twisting,’ the ‘just a fable,’ the ‘self-hating jew,’ the ‘occult weirdness,’ the ‘manic depressant,’ the ‘not teaching Christianity,’ that set me on my path to leave…Judaism.
It was my childhood religion in practice and learning, all my social groups were Jewish, my role models were Jewish, my best friends were Jewish, everything pointed to me being Jewish, including my face and habits.
But I couldn’t make it work anymore, didn’t feel right, an emptiness was there.
Something inside had died, I wanted to hide, decided to fake it, couldn’t forsake it, so I just went through the motions.
At the age of nineteen, when at college far away I secretly read the New Testament, since we were forbidden to read it.
I started with Matthew and was convinced from the genealogies that Jesus is the Messiah.
Why?
Because we all knew as Jewish kids that the genealogies were lost.
Only by some special revelation could anyone prove they are “Moshiach,” I mean, “Messiah.”
But the New Testament stated it firmly.
No twisting, matter of fact, and could easily be negated when Matthew inscribed it at that time.
It stood fast.
A light bulb went on!
“Jesus Christ is our Messiah!” I proclaimed to myself.
I excitedly called my rabbi.
“The Messiah already came!” I said.
“Nu?” he answered.
It’s Jesus Christ!” I proclaimed.
“Ahh, I’ll call you right back,” he mumbled.
My mother called instead.
You’re seeing a psychiatrist!” she said.
“The rabbi says you have mental problems,” so my mother said.
So much for logical debate!
What struck me about reading the New Testament, besides the Messianic genealogies, was its clear affirmation of ‘life after death.’
Yes, it was in Judaism in Tanach.
But only imaged in Moses, and somewhat sketched out in Psalms, Isaiah, and Daniel.
But the very clear demonstration of the “Resurrection of Jesus Christ” in the New Testament—with a group of once-frightened disciples changing the world from idolatry to belief in the God of the Bible—seized my heart and mind.
“Why I left Judaism?”

Thank you for sharing this testimony. With your exceptional knowledge of Orthodox Christian sources and Rabbinical Jewish sources, you are uniquely placed to clarify common American Christian confusion over the place of the Law of Moses. I believe it is questions about this that lead many towards the Messianic Jewish movement.
My wife is of Jewish descent and we have been attending a Messianic Jewish congregation. We have started attending an OCA church as inquirers, but we are confused over this question of the Mosaic Law.
This belief that Jewish Christians should follow the Mosaic Law is often defended via the following points:
1) Many laws are stated to be for “all time”
2) Matthew 5:17-20. Heaven and earth haven’t passed away. Therefore, the Law must be still in effect.
3) In Acts, the apostles still go to the temple to participate.
4) The festivals appointed through Moses help us understand the work of the Messiah. Therefore, they should still be celebrated.
5) The Nazarene Jewish Christians (whom St. Jerome consulted) continued to try to follow the Law even after the destruction of the temple.
I believe an in-depth video on this would be very valuable to many in your audience. If you don’t feel like writing a script and are willing to experiment with a new format, I would be delighted to do a call with you. You could record it, edit it, and upload it to youtube.
You don’t have to be a scholar or possess any special knowledge to refute those points. I’m a layperson (and a sinner) without any formal religious education, but even I can refute those flimsy points.
1- the laws of the Old Testament were merely provisional; they were meant to prepare the path for the truly everlasting covenant, namely the New Testament. The replacement of the Old Covenant with the New One is heralded in the 31st chapter of the Book of Jeremiah. “Behold, the days come, says the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and the house of Judah, not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, although I was a husband unto them, says the Lord, but this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel: after those days, says the Lord, I will put my law into their inward parts, and write it in their hearts, and I will be their God and they shall be my people”
2- heaven and earth don’t have to pass away for the Old Testament to expire; in the Epistle to the Hebrews, chapter eight, it is clearly stated that: “In that he said A new covenant he has made the first old. Now that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away”
3- In Acts, the Apostles entered the temple and synagogues only to preach the word of Christ. Sure, occasionally they did observe some Old Testament customs to appease the Jews, like Paul did when he circumcised Timothy or when he went to the temple to offer an offering, but those acts were tokens of their respect for the Old Testament, not participations therein. In Galatians, chapter five, Paul unequivocally states that: “… if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing; for I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to the whole law, Christ has become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law, ye are fallen from grace”. In the early years of Christianity it was acceptable for Christians, who were mostly Jews, to maintain some Old Testament traditions but they were purely habitual and had no salvific effect.
4- the festivals appointed by Moses must not be observed by Christians because they involve animal sacrifice (Passover, Sukkot, Yom Kippur, Shavuot), which would be an insult to Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. God doesn’t accept animal sacrifices or any offering made during these festivals, which were nothing more than shadows of Christ’s sacrifice, so these festivals have no salvific quality. Furthermore, these festivals cannot be observed in accordance with the Old Testament Law because offerings and sacrifices were to be offered only in the temple, which doesn’t exist anymore. Most importantly, as Christians we are not to conflate the New Covenant with the Old one, as Christ said in the ninth chapter of the Gospel after Matthew: “No man puts a piece of new cloth unto a new garment, for that which is put in it to fill it up takes from the garment, and the rent is made worse, neither do men put new wine into old bottles, else the bottles break and the wine runs out”.
5- The fact that a group of early Christians held a certain belief doesn’t mean anything. There were countless early Christian sects that held all sorts of erroneous beliefs.
As far as I’m concerned, many cults claiming to be Christian or to accept the teachings of Christ may very well be psyops designed to cause confusion, strife and pointless arguments among bona fide Christians. So be careful.
To deny that the Church Christ founded and the Apostles spread still exists, is the same as calling Jesus Christ a liar.
WWIII COMING?
The main question is not if the Gaza hospital has been bombed by IDF or by Hamas, because in every war there are also and unfortunately terrible errors, like IDF who has recently killed a lot of Jewish civilians and now Hamas has, like it seems, killed 500 ones. All it is to verify, but it is, even if heartbreaking, secondary.
The main and unique problem from which all the others derive is that the State of Israel is an illegal one built upon a mountain of lies, violence, deceits, beginning with Holocaust. In all this issue there is the complicity of the entire world, at least of the Western one, totally shaped, subjugated, blackmailed by Jewish propaganda and money,during the last two-three centuries.
This complicity, united to an abominable hypocrisy, will bring inevitably and deservedly it to the catastrophe of WWIII.
Referring to this complicity, it is worth noting that US have been founded in 1776 by JEWISH FREEMASONRY. Therefore they have always been ruled/controlled by JEWISH who occupy all the key places in all the fields and who work exclusively for Israel. The only guys that don’t know and understand it or, more precisely, don’t want know and understand it , are poor Americans who for this reason are sent in endless wars to die not for America (which has never been their motherland), but for Israel.
White Americans are slaves who work since the beginning for Jews, no less than the black ones deported from Africa like beasts by Jewish slavers, so like the Western Europeans, on their turn, are practically slaves of US.
Living in dreams world is much more easy and pleasant than living in the reality, but it is also dangerous because the awakening under hyper-sonic missiles of Russia which totally oppose the uni-polar Zionist NWO, will probably make crazy, if not dead.
The Jewish Freemasonry works since at least 250 years through any kinds of lies, deceits, plots (authentic and huge ones, not “theorist plot” that is a concept created by Zionists themselves to divert and psycho-subjugate Goym), in sight of its messianic (i.e. luciferian) plan upon the entire planet. For this, not only it doesn’t want to give up it, but no longer could, because it would be its anticipated death.
Like a jet that having exhausted fuel, it crashes inevitably to the ground or even better, like Prometheus (whose bronze sculpture is located “casually” above the lower plaza at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan), the friend of man, who for having stolen the fire (of power, knowledge, etc.) from the gods has been punished by Zeus who chained him onto a rock on Mount Caucasus for eternity, and put him to relentless torture by having a vicious eagle feed on his liver. The liver would grow up again at night, so that the eagle could happily eat it again the next day. A horrific symbolism or metaphor of hellish tortures particularly reserved to globalist Zionists who imitated their god Lucifer in his challenge to God.

I’ve wondered about your conversion story. Spitting rabbis seems to feature prominently in judaism! I still wonder why God chooses some for conversion while others who’d seem to be better candidates get overlooked. But glad you’re on the team.

just an FYI, for some reason which I cannot explain why, but when using the chrome browser with my mac to play your videos, they are displayed as muted and the unmute doesn’t work. But when I use the safari browser I can hear your voice just fine and the mute/unmute button works fine, when playing the video. Maybe it’s a bug with my current chrome version 121.0.6167.184 (Official Build) (arm64), I also tested firefox browser and it works just fine like safari does.
