The Amalek Syndrome
“When the Lord brings you into the land of seven nations greater than you, then break down their altars, burn their groves, smash their idols, destroy all they own, and save no male children alive.”
“The Lord wages war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
Harsh words to modern ears.
It’s one thing to crush a foe.
But to extinguish groves, cattle, and children, is extreme.
God has a reason:
“They will turn your hearts from following Me that you should serve other gods.”
There would be no people for Jesus to come to, if Israel assimilated with idol worshippers.
No disciples, no proclamation of the Gospel, if Israel had cast off its God-given religion.
But aren’t cattle and children innocent?
Yes.
But in the presence and permeation of evil, no.
Evil permeates all around it.
Animals, children, even a simple table cloth can be contaminated with evil.
Wickedness seems to have the advantage over goodness.
Vice is attractive and ready at hand.
But virtue is cheerless, rare and difficult to gain.
“Ask the priests concerning the law,” God commands the prophet Haggai:
“If holy flesh touches a vessel, will it sanctify it?”
“No,” answers the priests.
“If holy flesh touches a dead body will it partake of its pollution?”
“Yes,” answers the priests, “it becomes polluted.”
Goodness only with labor gains hold on human nature.
Yet evil—with its promise of gratification—easily seizes men with its flirtation.
Wormwood quickly imparts bitterness to honey.
Yet honey, even in large amounts, imparts no sweetness to wormwood.
Take exterminators.
A thorough job is their task.
If roaches crawl in one corner, other corners are not spared the gas.
Look at our nation.
Its repulsive display of immoral acts makes you gag.
Should the Amalek Syndrome kick in?
I mean, how do you suppose God would deal with today’s evil, so depraved and obscene?
Would one corner be treated and others go unheeded?
That’s why God’s holy orders for fighting evil involves apparent savagery.
Biblical extermination seems harsh and scary.
Yet, it’s actually merciful in the cure it carries.
And yes, necessary too.

God’s commandments to love and forgive our enemies and turn the other cheek are not absolute. In some cases they’re inapplicable, which is why physical violence against evildoers is prescribed in the opening verses of Romans 13:
“For rulers are not a terror unto good work, but to the evil. Will you then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and you shall have praise from the same. For he is the minister of God for you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he bears the sword not in vain, for he is a minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him who does evil.”
Jesus Christ forgave some of His enemies “for they knew not what they did,” but during the cleansing of the Temple, when Jesus was slamming and breaking things and threatening sinners with a whip, He wasn’t exactly the affable pacifist you’re making Him out to be, was He?
Wronging someone in a certain place at a certain time can be forgiven. But to deliberately subvert society, pervert the youth and destroy everything that Christians have created is something that needs to be stopped at any cost.

God brought judgement on nations (The Day of the Lord) it seems when there was no hope left of redeeming the populations. Even then, he left a remnant of righteous and faithful to reseed and restock. The meek inherit the land, i.e. after the wicked are destroyed out of it. It is not left to man to decide judgement, there is only one law giver and judge. But there are plenty of examples of God’s wrath to know that he periodically purges his threshing floor and gathers his wheat into the garner. There can be an end to the age, but not to the Earth. Power belongs to God, but also to you, oh Lord, belongs mercy.

Actually, God wants Christians to stop evil and He has even empowered rulers and governors to punish evildoers to stop evil.
Power is from God and Christians are to take it and put it to good use and purge society of evil.
Amen, God said to stop Sinning, He is Good, He is Blessed. He told us to forgive our ennemies and that Vengeance is His.
My Father in Heaven Forgive our Sins and iniquities, your Wrath is Terrible and Just. Deliver us from this world of Evil.
God expects Christians to stop evil. He has even appointed rulers to carry out His vengeance. Read Romans 13.
I wouldn’t be so disgusted with you Evangelicals if you actually believed the things you’re preaching. Your phony love for your enemies and your disingenuous forgiveness instantly goes out the window the moment Muslims and Palestinians come up in conversation.
You will turn into the vilest, most spiteful, genocidal monsters the moment someone brings up the Palestinians.
