Will John MacArthur Have A Rapture?
Splitting up bible events is a trendy thing for evangelical preachers to do.
Squeezing out a ‘Rapture” casts their audiences into euphoric spells.
John MacArthur propounds—with a hundred rounds of tedious ammunition—this blunder. [Clip]
[“The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall always be with the Lord.”]
MacArthur starts with straightforward stuff in St Paul’s Epistle to the Thessalonians.
Then he quibbles at a gnat and dribbles forth a folly. [Clip]
[“Paul answers the distress and the confusion and ignorance with a clear description of a single event that will be the next event on the prophetic calendar. We call it The Rapture, and that’s because of verse 17. The verb, “caught up, caught up,” “harpazō.” It means to snatch up, to seize and carry off by force. It is the sudden swoop of an irresistible force that pulls you away. So, it is a violent snatching away. The term, “rapture,” is simply a word to describe the snatching away.”]
Greek for Dummies.

I mean, his “Prophetic Calendar”—likely stuck to his fridge—divvies up Scripture into times and seasons which St Paul warns against decreeing. [Clip]
[“Following the snatching away of believers into heaven to be with the Lord at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb and to receive our eternal rewards, on earth after we’re gone, all hell breaks loose.”]
This he construes as ‘The Great Tribulation.’ [Clip]
[“Turn to Matthew 24 in his sermon on the Second Coming. He says in verse 21 of Matthew 24 that there will be a great tribulation, that’s that seven year period of tribulation, the later 3 and 1/2 years will be more severe than the first three and 1/2.”]
He merges Matthew 24 with Revelation 13 into a dispensational scheme.
Jesus does speak of a terrible suffering, but doesn’t divvy it up into “severe” and “more severe.”
He simply describes it as “a” great tribulation in which His disciples will be “afflicted and killed.”
The Orthodox Church teaches that this “tribulation” occurred in 70 AD.
It cites Josephus.
In “Jewish Wars” he speaks of internecine ravages, mothers eating their children, and countless outrages during the siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
Yet MacArthur tells his devotees not to fret since they’ll all “disappear.”
Even the misbeliever, John Calvin—MacArthur’s doctrinal guide—didn’t teach this nonsense. [Clip]
[“Sombody’s going to have to explain what happened to all the Believers, what happened to all the churches, why they’re all emptied, the true churches, why all these millions of people have disappeared in a flash, in a split second from the world.”]
I can’t even begin to imagine!
There’s no more evangelical preachers, upteen cracks and gaps in cemeteries, pilots smashing through their airplane domes, and lots of passengers crashing to their deaths. [Clip]
[“But the day of the Lord is coming. And I want you to know what those signs are and what those events are for two reasons. One, so you can thank the Lord that you’re not going to be a part of it…”]
Yet Paul says, “We must through much tribulation enter the kingdom of God.” [Clip]
[“But two, so that you can warn people as to the reality of it.”]
Gotta warn those un-elect heathen in MacArthur’s Calvinistic scheme they won’t be part of his disappearing meme.
You see, the “rapture” and its “system” was invented in 1830 by John Darby, popularized by Cyrus Scofield, and hyped up by Hal Lindsay in his “Late Great Planet Earth.”
Hence, arrays of Bible verses have been butchered up into disconnected limbs, veins, nerves, and parts.
When Jesus speaks of His Second Coming—not a “Third” as MacArthur avoids to say—Jesus says some are saved and others lost.
“There shall two be in the field,” says Jesus, “one shall be taken, the other shall be left.”
“Two women shall be grinding at the mill, one shall be taken, the other shall be left.”
Jesus refers this “taken” and “left” to Noah.
Noah, you see, was “taken” into the ark and saved, while others were “left” behind and destroyed.
At Jesus’ Second Coming some are saved, some are destroyed.
And He doesn’t split His Coming into a “Second” and “Third.”
You know, I prefer telling people about how I, raised in the synagogue, steeped in Judaism, now believe in Jesus as Messiah.
And how Jesus, not some abstruse event in the future, makes a huge difference in my life.
No one mocks, all are fixed on hearing my story.
But “Raptures,” “Disappearing Acts,” “Escapist Nonsense,” ‘carries off’ ridicule in its wake.
He, along with many hirlings, are Scoffield worshipping Dispentational Sensationalist. The preach another gospel of Jesus. They are Israel centered escatologist, not Jesus centered escatologist. The fools have no clue that most of revelation was about the fall of Jew-ruse-alem. There are some in the Evangelical movement that may be accepted into heaven, but not as many as they think. Wait and see when these people are in the middle of the tribulation. Watch how many will fall down and worship Satan because these hirelings lied to them.
Your reference to Josephus’ ‘Jewish Wars” is spectacular. This is one of the most consequential documents I have read in my life, and highly recommend it to anyone searching for historical context to the Bible prophecies and events. A.D. 70 is a pivotal event for the Jewish nation – after 40 years of testing from the time Jesus appeared in A.D. 30, they are judged and found lacking for their collective rejection of Jesus as the Christ. “Internecine” is a descriptive word for what happened in the City of Jerusalem during the siege. More Jews were killed by competing Jewish factions than by the Romans. The idea of a “Rapture” is a demonic concoction by Scofield and his minions. Don’t contort the clear passages of Scripture with prophetic passages of Revelation that deal with symbolism. Bro. N., you are right – again!
I agree with everything you said about the 70 AD doctrine, but there’s still the problem of when Revelation was written. Scholars are constantly telling us Revelation was written in 95 AD under Caesar Domitian, which causes problems as there was no apocalypse in 95 AD.
2 Thessalonians Chapter 2. The antichrist appears claiming to be Christ returned BEFORE the True Jesus returns.
When one is taken and the other left, Jesus is telling us that the one taken was fooled into believing that the antichrist is Jesus. The one left is left waiting for the true Christ to return. When Jesus returns and finds one “with child” or “giving suck”, he means that they have jumped into bed with the antichrist, i.e. they are worshipping the antichrist/satan as God. Remember that God compares Idolatry to Adultery. IOW These people are deceived and beguiled just as Eve was in the Garden.
God reduced the time that the tribulation would last for the sake of the Elect, to 5 months, i.e. The time of the Locust. Locust have a 5 month lifespan. The lifespan of the Locust is described in Scripture for that reason.
The entire world is in position, set up, for the the appearance of the antichrist, right now. His offspring own the Banking sysyem, the economic system, governments, academia, media. The entire world is being swept along with this system. Most DON’T want it. The powers and who they place in office are lying and telling us that most DO want it. When the antichrist appears he will bring it all together as a one world system. Government, economy, academia, and lastly Religion, after the Antichrist/Satan appears claiming to be Christ. The “Falling Away” described in Scripture, happens when the antichrist appears claiming to be Christ. The majority of the people will fall away from God because they will be fooled into believing that the antichrist/satan is Christ returned and they will worship him as God.
The lifespan of the Locust begins in May, every year. Note the Month that Israel declared itself a Nation in 1948. Note also that there are two Baskets of Figs in Israel. Then read Rev 2:9 and Rev 3:7-9. They are the flesh offspring of the Serpent/Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil that Crucified Christ. The true offspring of the tribe of Judah did NOT Crucify Christ. They welcomed Christ and they Believed Christ.
The people calling themselves “Jews” that are running this “show”, causing the trouble around the globe, are NOT Jews. By their fruit you shall know them.
