The identity between “Legion”—the “many” demons—and the man among the tombs, is one of unison.
Where the actual man begins, and where the demons impose their presence, cannot be distinguished.
Only the Lord Jesus Christ can split the dual unity into two parts.
The event, and the lesson learned, unfolds before our eyes. [Clip]
[“Jesus, Son Of The Most High God, what do you want with me? I beg you, don’t punish me!” “What is your name?” “Legion.”]
“For we are many,” the Gospel states.
Though “many,” Legion speaks with “one” voice.
We are at a crossroads of history here.
Heretofore the fallen angels, led by Satan, held sway over all that lies beneath heaven.
“Demons,” who prided themselves upon their shrines of costly stones, who reveled in sculptured altars, honored with sacrifice and incense, crowned with universal praises…
…now fall from their glory in the presence of the Jesus, God Incarnate, and beg for a herd of swine! [Clip]
[“Lord, we beg you, do not send us into the abyss. Let us enter into the herd of swine.” “Go away from here!”]
The people, rather than benefiting from the Son of God’s Holy presence, urge Jesus to leave.
The people of Israel did the same by crucifying Him.
What befell the demoniac possessed by “Legion” becomes the plight of Israel itself.
Forty years following the crucifixion of Jesus and His resurrection—God granting time for the religious leaders to repent, but they did not—internecine war descends upon Israel.
Demons prevail over the land, for as Josephus the Jewish historian records, mothers eat their children during the famine that ensued.
The identity between “Legion” and “body politic” becomes reality.
In 70 AD under Emperor Titus, then in 135 AD under Emperor Hadrian, the dual-identity of evil and the nation of Israel is wiped out.
A nation scattered, bereft of temple and priesthood forever, is all that’s left.
A great transformation otherwise takes place.
The world, once rife with idolatry, becomes permeated with the Orthodox Christian Faith, Churches offering acceptable incense of worship—as the prophets Isaiah in his last chapter, and Malachi in his first, predicted—crop up everywhere.
By the 5th Century AD—thanks to the heroic faith of St Constantine The Great—the world is purged of demonic-inspired idolatry.
“Sin is a reproach to any nation,” says the wise Solomon.
By cutting asunder evil from a nation, prosperity and God’s grace is conferred.
To continue in evil will find mothers seeing their children’s souls eaten alive.
I’ve been listening to you for quite a while Brother. The short story is I graduated in Anthropology some time ago. Since then I started to center on religion. I’ve educated myself mostly in the religion that I’ve been in since birth. Roman Catholic. And you give me a lot of knowledge about your birth beliefs. Thank You. Your commentaries are great.
Jesus Defies Legion Of Demons
“What is your name?” Jesus asks the demoniac.
“My name is ‘Legion’ for we are many.”
